Bluevine's plans and how to skip the fee

Bluevine Standard
No monthly fee. Domestic wires $15; same-day ACH $10; mailed checks $1.50 each.
Bluevine Plus
$30 a month, or free with a $20,000 average balance and $2,000 of card spending. Domestic wires $12; same-day ACH $8; 5 mailed checks free a month; Bluevine puts it at 20% off most Standard payment fees.
Bluevine Premier
$95 a month, or free with a $100,000 average balance and $5,000 of card spending. Domestic wires $7.50; same-day ACH $5; 20 mailed checks free a month; Bluevine puts it at 50% off most Standard payment fees.

The waiver is checked each billing period and needs both parts: the average daily balance across your checking account and sub-accounts, and spending on the Bluevine Business Debit Mastercard. Plus and Premier also pay more interest and allow more sub-accounts, and Premier adds priority support.

Importer: 10 wires, and 6 wires in euros of $10,000

Plan fee plus every payment fee. Standard suits a business with few wires; meeting a waiver makes Plus the cheaper account for the growing business, and the importer's wires, most of them large and in another currency, make Premier the cheapest.

When a paid plan pays for itself

Plus costs $30 and saves $3 on each domestic wire, so on wires alone it matches Standard at 10 wires a month and comes out ahead from 11. Premier overtakes Plus from 15 wires a month.

International wires in another currency get there faster, because the saving grows with the amount: one wire of about $10,000 a month pays for Plus, and one of about $16,500 pays for Premier against Standard. And in a month that meets a plan's waiver, you pay only its fees, which are never higher than a lower plan's.

Not in the figures: fees other ATMs' operators charge, Green Dot cash deposits (up to $4.95), card payments you accept, interest on your balance, and any gap between Bluevine's exchange rate and the mid-market rate on wires in another currency.

Plus and Premier are free in any month you meet both a balance and a card spending requirement. Standard ACH is free on every plan; wires, same-day ACH, mailed checks beyond the free ones and international wires are charged per use, less on the higher plans.

02

What are Bluevine’s wire fees?

A domestic wire costs $15 on Standard, $12 on Plus, $7.50 on Premier. Receiving a domestic wire is free. International wires sent in US dollars cost $25 on Standard, $20 on Plus, $12.50 on Premier, and in another currency the same flat fee plus a share of the amount in dollars: $25 + 1.5% on Standard, $20 + 1.25% on Plus, $12.50 + 1% on Premier.

03

How much is a Bluevine international wire?

In dollars, $25 on Standard, $20 on Plus and $12.50 on Premier. In another currency Bluevine adds a percentage of the amount, so a $1,000 payment in euros costs $40.00 on Standard, $32.50 on Plus, $22.50 on Premier. Receiving an international wire costs $15 on Standard, $12 on Plus, $7.50 on Premier.

04

How do I avoid the Bluevine monthly fee?

Standard has none. Plus's $30 is dropped for a billing period in which you keep an average daily balance of at least $20,000 and spend at least $2,000 on the Bluevine Business Debit Mastercard. Premier's $95 needs $100,000 and $5,000. You need both, not one.

05

Does Bluevine charge for ACH transfers?

Standard ACH is free to send and receive on every plan. Same-day ACH costs $10 on Standard, $8 on Plus, $5 on Premier.

06

Does Bluevine charge for cash deposits and ATMs?

Withdrawals at MoneyPass ATMs are free; elsewhere Bluevine charges $2.50 and the ATM's operator may add its own fee. Cash deposits cost $1 + 0.5% at AllPoint ATMs, so $3.50 on $500, or up to $4.95 through Green Dot, on any plan.

07

Does Bluevine have overdraft or maintenance fees?

No overdraft or NSF fee and no minimum deposit, on any plan, and Standard has no monthly fee. Bluevine does list a $10 one-time fee after a period of inactivity, $30 for an express debit card replacement, and $30 for each checkbook beyond the free ones.

08

Is Bluevine Plus worth it?

On domestic wires alone, Plus's $30 matches what it saves at 10 wires a month and comes out ahead from 11. One wire in another currency of about $10,000 or more a month also pays for it. If your balance and card spending meet its waiver, Plus costs only its fees, which are never higher than Standard's.
