Send Money to OXXO from the USA

OXXO runs 24,759 convenience stores across Mexico, and many US transfer services pay out at their counters. Here is who does, what a small pickup costs, how much a store will hand over, and what your recipient has to bring.

The Short Answer

You can send money from the US to an OXXO store, and 10 of the services we checked say they pay out there. You choose cash pickup, select OXXO, and your recipient collects pesos with a reference number and an official photo ID. An OXXO counter suits small amounts. For rent-sized sums, a bank deposit or a Spin by OXXO account takes far more in one go.

Which Services Pay Out at OXXO

OXXO pays out only for the transfer companies that have a deal to use its counters, directly or through a payout partner, so whether your money can be collected there depends on the service you send with. We read the US pages of 12 transfer services on November 1, 2026. These are the ones that name OXXO, with what each says about limits in its own words.

Two big names are missing. WorldRemit names no OXXO payout; it pays out cash at other chains, Walmart, Farmacias Guadalajara and Banco Azteca among them. Wise names no OXXO payout; it pays into Mexican bank accounts by CLABE. Both still send money to Mexico. They just can’t put it in an OXXO cashier’s hands.

What a $100 Pickup Costs

Here is the catch with pricing an OXXO pickup: some services charge differently depending on which store chain pays out. BOSS Money, MoneyGram and Taptap Send all say so on their own pages. Taptap Send goes as far as publishing a separate fee for each chain, so its price at OXXO can differ from its price at Walmart or a bank counter.

Pangea, Remitly and Ria describe their fees differently. Each lists what sets the price: the amount, how you pay, and how the money arrives or how fast. None of them names the pickup chain, so the price they quote for cash pickup should be the price at OXXO. Those are the services we can price for you here, on $100 paid from a bank account.

USD to MXN, $100, paid from a bank account and collected as cash, in quotes collected October 28–30, 2026. All-in cost is the fee plus what the exchange-rate markup costs on the same amount. A promotional fee or a rate better than our mid-market reference is listed last, never ranked.

Of the three, Ria Money Transfer cost least on $100, at $2.90 all-in with a $2.50 fee. On an amount this small, a few dollars of fee is a big share of the transfer, so the gap matters more than it looks.

For every other service in the first table, select OXXO in the app and read the fee and the amount your recipient gets before you pay. That final screen is the only price that counts.

04

How Much an OXXO Store Pays Out

An OXXO counter pays out modest sums, not rent money. When FEMSA announced its remittance service with Western Union on May 8, 2024, it said customers could collect up to 4,000 pesos at every store, roughly $212.99 at today’s mid-market rate.

The transfer services set their own caps on top of that, and they are not consistent. Xoom’s help centre allows $100 sent and 2,000 pesos paid out per transfer, while its own OXXO offer page says 4,000 pesos or $200. Sendwave stops OXXO transfers at $177. Taptap Send allows up to 10,000 pesos but adds that the limit varies by location, and Pangea simply points you to the app. Treat any figure you read, including ours, as a guide and the app as the answer.

Sending more than a store pays out

You have two options. Split the money into several transfers, each paying its own fee, or send it somewhere without a cash drawer. A bank deposit by CLABE or a Spin by OXXO account takes far larger amounts in a single transfer, often for a lower fee than cash pickup.

05

At the Counter

Xoom, Pangea and Taptap Send all say a cash pickup is usually ready within minutes of sending. Here is how it goes from there.

  1. 01You send. Choose cash pickup, select OXXO as the pickup location, and enter your recipient’s full legal name exactly as it appears on their ID.
  2. 02You pass on the reference number. Each service calls it something different: an MTCN at Western Union, a transaction number at Xoom, a PIN or order number at Ria, an 8-digit reference number at MoneyGram.
  3. 03Your recipient goes to any OXXO. Ria and Taptap Send say any store will do, not one you pick in advance. Sendwave is the exception to know about: it says the money must be collected in the state you sent it to.
  4. 04They show the number and a valid photo ID. FEMSA lists an INE or IFE voter card, a passport or a consular ID. For a Xoom transfer, the recipient fills out a form first.
  5. 05The cashier pays out in Mexican pesos and hands over a receipt.
The name has to match the ID

Xoom, Remitly and MoneyGram all say the name on the transfer must match the recipient’s ID. Mexican names usually carry two surnames, so enter both, spelled as the ID spells them. A mismatch can mean a wasted trip to the store.

Timing matters too. FEMSA gave remittance hours of 6 am to 10 pm, every day of the year in 2024, but Xoom’s help centre lists 6 am to 9 pm for its OXXO pickups. If your recipient is going after work, before 9 pm is the safe window.

06

Spin by OXXO: The Account Option

Spin by OXXO is FEMSA’s own digital wallet, with a debit card, and it is the way around the counter’s ceiling. Money lands in your recipient’s Spin account instead of a cash drawer. From there they can pay with the card, transfer it, or withdraw cash at an OXXO when they need it. FEMSA counted 18.4 million people signed up in 3Q 2026.

BOSS Money, MoneyGram, Ria, Taptap Send, Western Union and Xoom say they can send to Spin. Before the first transfer, check one thing with your recipient: the account level. For Western Union transfers, FEMSA listed four requirements: a Spin Más (N2) account, a scanned ID, a completed profile and a selfie. Taptap Send also asks for an upgraded Spin Más profile, and adds that the recipient has to accept each transfer in the app; one left unaccepted for 30 days goes back to you.

Spin limits

When Spin started taking Western Union transfers in January 2025, FEMSA set the limit at USD 900 per transfer and USD 3,000 a month. Other services print their own Spin ceilings (Ria says 3,000 USD per deposit and per month, Xoom $3,000 a month), so as with cash pickup, the app has the final word. FEMSA also said Spin charges nothing to receive those funds.

07

Paying for the Transfer in Cash

OXXO is about how the money is collected in Mexico. How you pay in the US is a separate question, and since January 1, 2026 it carries a tax consequence: a transfer paid in cash, by money order, by cashier’s check or with a similar paper instrument is subject to a 1% federal excise tax, which is $1 on a $100 transfer. Pay from a US bank account or with a US debit or credit card and no tax applies. Our 2026 remittance tax guide covers the details.

08

When a Deposit Beats the Counter

Cash at OXXO is the right call when your recipient has no bank account or needs money in hand today. If they have a bank account or a wallet, compare what those routes deliver before you default to the counter. This comparison prices bank deposits to Mexico against the live mid-market rate.

Estimates only, not live quotes. "Recipient Gets" is for a bank deposit funded from a bank account, on today's mid-market rate: for a "provider quote", minus the rate markup and fee from that provider's own recent quote; for an estimate, minus the provider's typical markup and fee. Rows are ranked by total cost, the fee plus the rate markup, so a fee charged on top of the amount sent counts against a provider even when its recipient gets more. Real cost varies by corridor, amount, delivery and payment method, and promotions (e.g. new-customer offers can be cheaper). Tap a provider to get its live rate before sending. The dot by each provider shows confidence, and the label says how the figure was grounded: "corridor estimate" is a rate we measured for this exact pair; a currency-code estimate (e.g. "USD estimate") is measured for that source currency but not this destination; "typical estimate" is the provider's general figure across all its corridors; "provider quote" is that provider's own recent quote for this pair, its markup and fee applied to today's mid-market rate exactly as its calculator shows them, and a provider whose quote depends on a payment or delivery choice is left out here and priced on its own calculator. Margins are verified against live provider quotes and the World Bank Remittance Prices database; the date above is the most recent collection. Some “Send money now” buttons are partner links: we may earn a commission if you sign up, at no cost to you, and rows are ranked by cost whatever the link. See how we collect these prices and our advertising disclosure.

OXXO Questions

Can I send money from the US to an OXXO store?

Yes. Choose cash pickup in the app or on the website, pick OXXO from the list of pickup locations, and your recipient collects pesos at the counter. Of the US services we checked on November 1, 2026, BOSS Money, MoneyGram, Pangea, Remitly, Ria, Sendwave, Taptap Send, Western Union, Xe and Xoom name OXXO as a place to collect.

How much money can be picked up at OXXO?

When FEMSA, the company behind OXXO, announced its remittance service with Western Union in May 2024, it said customers could collect up to 4,000 pesos at every store. The transfer services print their own ceilings, and some don't match each other: Xoom's help centre says 2,000 pesos per payout while its OXXO offer page says 4,000. The app shows the real limit before you pay.

What does my recipient need to collect at OXXO?

The transfer's reference number and a valid official photo ID. FEMSA lists an INE or IFE voter card, a passport or a consular ID. The name on the ID has to match the name you typed on the transfer, both surnames included, or the cashier can refuse to pay.

Does OXXO charge my recipient to pick up the money?

Ria and Pangea both say it does not: the cost is the fee you pay when you send, plus whatever margin sits in the exchange rate. Check the amount your recipient will get on the final screen, since that is what the cashier hands over.

What hours can money be collected at OXXO?

FEMSA gave remittance hours of 6 am to 10 pm, every day of the year in its May 2024 release. Xoom's help centre lists 6 am to 9 pm for its OXXO pickups, so an evening pickup is safer before 9.

What is Spin by OXXO, and can I send money to it?

Spin by OXXO is FEMSA's digital wallet and debit card. BOSS Money, MoneyGram, Ria, Taptap Send, Western Union and Xoom say they can deposit into it. Your recipient needs an upgraded Spin Más (N2) account to take money from abroad, and can then spend it with the card or withdraw cash at an OXXO store.

Does WorldRemit or Wise pay out at OXXO?

Not according to their US pages when we checked. WorldRemit pays out cash at other chains, Walmart, Farmacias Guadalajara and Banco Azteca among them, and Wise pays into Mexican bank accounts by CLABE.

Is there a tax on sending money to OXXO?

Only if you pay for the transfer in cash, by money order, by cashier’s check or with a similar paper instrument. Those transfers have carried a 1% federal excise tax since January 1, 2026. Pay from a US bank account or with a US debit or credit card and no tax applies, whatever way your recipient collects.
