TransferGo Fee Structure
* Estimated typical cost: the live mid-market rate minus this provider's typical exchange-rate markup, plus its typical fee. Real cost varies by corridor, amount, delivery and payment method, and promotions — check the provider for a live quote.
Wise uses the real mid-market rate with one clear fee and no markup hidden in the exchange rate. Worth a look before you send.
See Wise’s rateSending from the US? TransferGo can't help you — there's no United States send option, so you can't fund a transfer from a US bank account. (It does support the US dollar, but only from a USD account held in Europe — not from a US bank.) If you're in America, compare Wise, Remitly, Xoom and others here. If you're in the UK, Germany, Poland, Spain or elsewhere in Europe, you're in the right place.
TransferGo started the way a lot of good money apps do: its founders got burned. Back in 2012, running an import-export business out of London, they watched their bank swallow chunky fees and take three to five days just to move money across a border. So they built something better — a service aimed squarely at the millions of people in the UK and Europe sending money home to family. More than a decade on, over nine million people in 160-plus countries use it.
Here's the part that matters for your wallet. On a lot of routes TransferGo simply hands you the real mid-market exchange rate — the exact number you'd see on Google — and charges a small, upfront fee. Send €500 to India and you might pay about €0.49 with no rate markup at all. On other routes it flips the model: zero fee, but a small margin of roughly half a percent baked into the rate. Either way you're a long way from the 3–5% a high-street bank quietly takes.
The catch is speed-versus-cost, and geography. TransferGo is fast — its "Now" option can land in 30 minutes — but it only sends from the UK and Europe. Use the calculator above to see the exact fee, the exchange-rate markup, and what your recipient actually receives for your amount and route.
How TransferGo's Fees Actually Work
There are only two ways a transfer service can charge you: a fee you can see, or a markup hidden in the exchange rate. TransferGo uses a mix of both depending on the route — and it's usually small on either side. Here's what we actually measured from TransferGo's live quotes on €/£500 transfers:
| Route | Fee | Rate markup | What it means |
|---|---|---|---|
| EUR → India | €0.49 | 0% | Real mid-market rate + tiny fee |
| GBP → Poland | £0 | 0.4% | No fee, wafer-thin margin |
| EUR → Poland | €0 | 0.49% | No fee, small margin |
| EUR → Philippines | €0 | 0.9% | No fee, modest margin |
| EUR → Ukraine | €0 | 1.71% | Softer currency, higher margin |
The takeaway: on mainstream European and Asian routes TransferGo is genuinely cheap — often under 1% all-in. The markup climbs on thinner, more volatile currencies (Ukraine, some African routes), which is normal for every provider. The one number that lets you compare fairly is total cost as a percentage of what you send, and that's exactly what the calculator shows.
Delivery Speeds (and What They Cost)
TransferGo lets you trade a little money for a lot of speed. Faster tiers add a slightly higher fixed fee; the standard option most people use is the cheapest.
Now
Arrives in as little as 30 minutes. TransferGo bills itself as the only pan-European service that guarantees 30-minute delivery. Highest fee.
Today
Lands the same business day if you send before the cut-off. A middle-ground fee.
Standard
Arrives by the next business day. The cheapest option — often free or under €1 — and what the calculator prices.

Is TransferGo Legit?
Short answer: yes. TransferGo is an authorised electronic money institution regulated by the UK's Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), and in the EU it's authorised by the Bank of Lithuania. It has been operating since 2012, is headquartered in London with offices across Europe, and moves money for more than nine million people. Your money is safeguarded under e-money rules — it isn't lent out or invested like a bank deposit.
That said, "regulated and safe" and "cheapest for your route" are two different questions. TransferGo is reputable; whether it's the best price for your specific transfer is what the numbers above are for.

TransferGo Fees — FAQ
How much does TransferGo charge to send money?
It depends on the route. On many transfers TransferGo gives you the real mid-market rate and charges a small fixed fee (a EUR→India transfer can be about €0.49 with no rate markup). On others there's no fee but a small margin of roughly 0.4%–0.9% (EUR/GBP→Poland). Softer currencies like the Ukrainian hryvnia run around 1.7%–2%. The calculator shows your exact route.
Does TransferGo use the real exchange rate?
On many popular routes, yes — it passes on the mid-market rate and earns from a small fee. On others it adds a modest margin, usually under 1% on major European corridors. The average across routes is under about 0.7% — far below a bank's typical 3–5% hidden markup.
Can I use TransferGo from the United States?
No — not from within the US. TransferGo has no United States send option, so you can't fund a transfer from a US bank account. It does support the US dollar, but only from a USD account held in Europe — not from a US bank. From the US, use Wise, Remitly or Xoom (compare them on our money transfer page). TransferGo sends from the UK, Germany, Poland, Spain, the Baltics and other European countries.
How fast are TransferGo transfers?
TransferGo offers "Now" (as little as 30 minutes — it claims to be the only pan-European provider guaranteeing 30-minute delivery), "Today" (same business day), and "Standard" (next business day). Faster tiers cost a little more; the calculator prices the standard option.
Is TransferGo safe and regulated?
Yes. It's an authorised e-money institution regulated by the FCA in the UK and by the Bank of Lithuania in the EU, founded in 2012 and used by 9M+ people across 160+ countries. Funds are safeguarded under e-money rules.
Is TransferGo cheaper than Wise?
It's close and route-dependent. Wise always uses the mid-market rate with a visible percentage fee; TransferGo sometimes matches that and sometimes charges zero fee with a small rate margin. On many European routes they're within a few cents. Compare both for your exact amount — this calculator shows TransferGo, and our comparison ranks it against Wise.
