Every plan, cheapest first
Plan prices as Tide's pricing page shows them; yearly prices are spread over twelve months. UK transfers in and out both count toward the free allowance, and cash deposits are priced at the Post Office. Max's cashback on card spend and Free's extra FX fee on cash withdrawals abroad are not included.
Tide's plans and what each includes
Paying yearly costs about 33% less: Smart £99.99, Pro £219.99, Max £559.92. Higher plans also lower the fee on international payments and add team cards, extra accounts and priority support.
Tide's fees per use, by plan
A £500 Post Office deposit costs £2.50 on any plan; a £2,000 one costs £19.80 on Free and £10.00 on a paid plan.
Three businesses, priced
Plan price plus every fee, billed monthly. Free suits a business with few transfers and no spending abroad; card spending in other currencies is what tips a business onto Smart, and a heavy flow of transfers or international payments onto Pro.
When a paid plan pays for itself
Smart's extra transfers are worth at most £5.00 a month against Free, less than its £12.49 price, so transfers alone never justify it. Card spending abroad does: Smart pays for itself once that spending passes about £455 a month.
Pro costs £15.00 more than Smart and makes transfers unlimited, so on transfers alone it is the cheaper of the two from about 105 transfers a month. Its lower fee on EUR and USD transfers (0.75% FX fee against £0.50 + 1.25% FX fee) brings that point forward for a business paying abroad.

Tide fees: common questions
How much does Tide cost?
Tide has four plans: Free with no plan fee, Smart at £12.49 a month, Pro at £27.49 and Max at £69.99, or £99.99, £219.99 and £559.92 paid yearly, about 33% less. On top of the plan you pay per use: 20p for each UK transfer beyond the free ones, £1 per cash withdrawal, and fees for cash deposits, CHAPS and international payments.
Is Tide really free?
The Free plan has no monthly fee, but it is not free to use heavily: it includes 5 UK bank transfers a month, then charges 20p for each one in or out, plus 2.75% on card payments in other currencies. A sole trader making 20 transfers and 1 cash withdrawal a month pays £4.00 on Free.
What are Tide’s transfer fees?
20p per UK bank transfer, in or out, once the plan's free transfers are used: 5 a month on Free, 30 on Smart, and unlimited on Pro and Max. Transfers between Tide accounts are free.
Does Tide charge to receive money?
Yes, beyond the free allowance. Tide says bank transfers in or out cost 20p, and inbound payments arrive minus the fee. Incoming transfers count toward the same monthly allowance as outgoing ones.
What does Tide charge for international payments?
EUR and USD bank transfers cost £1 + 1.5% FX fee on Free, £0.50 + 1.25% FX fee on Smart, 0.75% FX fee on Pro and 0.5% FX fee on Max. SWIFT payments in GBP are a flat £10, £7.50, £5 or £3 by plan, plus 1.5% to 0.5% FX fee when sent in another currency.
Does the Tide card charge a fee abroad?
On Free, card payments in another currency carry a 2.75% FX fee, and so do cash withdrawals abroad on top of the £1 ATM fee. Smart, Pro and Max charge 0% FX on card payments. Every plan pays £1 per cash withdrawal.
How much does Tide charge for cash deposits?
At the Post Office, £2.50 for a deposit up to £500 on any plan; above that, 0.99% on Free and 0.5% on the paid plans. At PayPoint, 3% per deposit, from £10 and up to £500 a day. A cheque costs 70p plus the 20p transfer fee.
Is Tide Smart worth it?
Only if you spend abroad on the card. Smart's extra transfers save at most £5.00 a month against Free, less than its £12.49 price; it pays for itself once your card spending in other currencies passes about £455 a month, where Free's 2.75% fee overtakes the plan price.
